‘All I’ve Ever Known,’ is a series of seven short stories that unravel buried memory and longing before the inevitable fate of death knocks on your door. Utilizing journal entries, songs, and movement, I aim to share the process of grieving that was required of me during COVID-19 when my father passed away suddenly on May 9th, 2020. Through these seven short stories, I imagine hints of nostalgia, like songs I used to sing that remind me of my father, to joyous moments of childhood, and also the darkness that is carried in the heart after losing not just a loved one, but your whole life as you know it. With multiple performers involved, certain characters, themes, and reflections of the past year will come through the work, so it doesn’t solely rely on my experiences alone, it speaks to a broader audience grieving together. From the political events of 2020 that will make history, to unraveling my father’s life, ‘All I’ve Ever Known’ will contain a particular type of rawness that is relatable to everyone. I hope to find that even with grief and persistent solitude, the creative spark remains.

When you've lost everything, you are forced to return to all you've ever known, representing a truth about how the human body can sense the state of the world - even in an empty room, where you find yourself alone.
